This is one that I am putting up here because I disagree with it. People receive advice and profit from it all of the time. Granted, the guy who authored the quote lived 2000 years ago, so things have changed and nothing against his wisdom. This is also one of those quotes that you have the instinct to agree with it (as with most all famous quotes), then you find supporting evidence and assume it to be true. You think of a time that you remember getting advice... and it was wrong! Well, that makes sense. Something goes right, you remember it going right and you give yourself as much credit as possible because that's what we, as humans, do. Something goes wrong and you place as much blame on other people as you can. Say you got advice in both situations, you're going to attach advice to the memory of the bad experience and you're much less likely to attach advice to the positive outcome (you'll just remember the positive experience, maybe even give yourself credit). Also, it takes one bad piece of advice to ruin an outcome. It can take many pieces of good advice to piece together a good outcome. And one good example of when advice is good, how about any time you are purchasing something and you look at reviews. How many times have you avoided a shit product because other people went before you and were upset with it? You wouldn't consider that to be advice and you're not likely to remember it because you end up not even purchasing the object at question. Good advice is usually to not do something, so then you don't do it and not much thought goes to it beyond that point and you remember things by thinking about them repititiously.
